Secretary General, Ministry of Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Media
George Florentis was born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1963. He graduated from the Averoff School in Alexandria and holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alexandria.
From 1989 until today, he has served in various positions at the Ministry of the Presidency of the Government, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Public Order, as well as the Region of Attica and the Decentralized Administration of Attica. From January 2015 till December 2016, he was the counselor of the Secretary General for Media and Communication, Lefteris Kretsos.
From January to September 2017 he served as Special Secretary for Communication Planning for Migration and Refugee Policy.
In September 2017 he was appointed Secretary General of the Ministry of Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Information.
He has been a member and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Union of Greek Students of Alexandria, member and president of the Association of Graduates of the Averofou School of Alexandria. He has been a founding member and is now Secretary General of the Hellenic-Egyptian Friendship Association.
He collaborated with the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) Bureau from 1995 to 2012
He is also the Coordinator of the “SYRIZA-Greek Diaspora Department” and a member of the “Sexual Orientation, Expression and Gender Identity Group” in the SYRIZA- Rights Department.
He has been awarded with the St. Marcus Cross of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa, as well as with the Grand Cross of the Ancient Patriarchal Order of Sabbas the Sanctified of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa – while being also an “Archon Apokrisarios” of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa.
He has two children, Konstantinos and Andriani.
